Expenses and Attendance

Hebden Royd Town Councillors are volunteers and, apart from the mayor (and occasionally the deputy mayor), do not receive any form of expenses or allowances. I have therefore never received any form of payment for being a Hebden Royd Town Councillor.

Trips/courses attended at the council’s expense

  • September 2010 – Weekend trip to Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise, Hebden Bridge’s twin town in France (the council paid my travel costs as part of the official delegation)

Occasionally the council pays for councillors and staff to go on training courses. I have never benefited from this.

Trips attended at my own expense

  • December 2008 – Weekend trip to┬áSaint-Pol-sur-Ternoise, Hebden Bridge’s twin town in France
  • December 2009 – Day trip to Leeds Metropolitan University to see Human Geography and Urban Planning students present their project reports on parking in Hebden Bridge
  • March 2011 – Trip to Warstein, Hebden Royd’s twin town in Germany

Full council meetings generally occur every three weeks, with various committee meetings in between. Hebden Royd Town Council publishes a Town Talk newsletter at the end of each year, with an official record of councillor attendance. My attendance record is as follows:

  • 2008 [elected in August] – 16 out of 16 possible meetings (Town Talk 12 [PDF])
  • 2009 – 10 out of 11 possible full council meetings, and 11 out of 12 possible committee meetings (Town Talk 13 [PDF])
  • 2010 – 15 out of 16 possible full council meetings, and 12 out of 15 possible committee meetings (council attendance record [PDF])

  • 2009 – Friends of Nutclough Woods [acquaintance of funding applicant]
  • 2009 – Redevelopment on Victoria Road (planning application) [site is adjacent to my house]
